Minister Haroun Launches Project to Improve Rule of Law, Good Governance, Civic Space and Accountability in Tanzania through Enhanced Partnership
In an effort to improve the rule of law, and promote the principles of human rights in Tanzania, the Minister of State, President’s Office – Constitution, Law, Civil Service and Good Governance Hon. Haroun Ali Suleiman has officially launched a national project aimed at strengthening social cohesion, and protecting human rights.
In his inaugural speech, the Minister explained that this project has come at the right time, especially at a time when the nation needs true solidarity and a strong system to preserve justice and peace.
He also emphasized the importance of partnership between government and civil society in promoting human rights and maintaining lasting peace.
This project is implemented by four major civil society organizations: Zanzibar Female Lawyers Association (ZAFELA) on the Zanzibar side, and Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) on the Tanzanian side, PALU and EALS on the Tanzanian mainland towards building a society based on equality, justice, and respect for human dignity. This project also aims to strengthen the capacity of human rights defenders, engage the community in discussions on justice, peace, and promote good governance.
Various stakeholders who participated in the launch expressed their appreciation for this strategic step, emphasizing that the implementation of this project will make a significant contribution to building an inclusive society, with sensitivity, tolerance, and respect for the rights of everyone.
